Wow. Well, here it is – my shiny new site, with a shiny new blog, from which I am taking my first steps into a shiny new career as a freelance editor! Come in and have a look around.
While you’re doing that, I’ll introduce myself. I’m Kerrie – as you might have guessed – and after ten years in academia as a researcher, project manager, teacher and postgraduate supervisor, I’m moving into freelance editing and having a crack at a career in the publishing industry. I read a lot – fiction and non-fiction – and you can find my current books in the Goodreads widget on the right-hand side of the page. I’m a specialist in fantasy and science fiction literature, and also have a lot of experience with historical fiction and mysteries, so if you have something along those lines you want edited, well, you definitely know where to find me! Likewise if you need a thesis copy-edited or proofread, trust me, after writing one myself and supervising plenty of students, I know what I’m doing.
I do general editing too – reports, academic papers, websites and so on. There’s no end to the things you learn how to do racketing around the university for a decade or so.
As for this blog, well, it’s mostly just a place to chat about things and connect with people. I plan to write about books I’ve read and TV I’ve watched, throw in a little bit of reflective practice as I progress through my MA in Editing and Publishing (short, sweet and not too scholarly, so don’t be alarmed), and generally ramble on about stuff I like. Please feel free to stop by and say hi, chat about something, or point me toward a book you think everyone should be reading! I love a good recommendation. Though be warned, my to-be-read list is already quite long…
